This Saturday, January 24th, I will be joining an incredible group of artists, leaders, and storytellers as a panelist at Queer Career Day, a free, high-energy event for LGBTQ+ youth and allies hosted by HiTOPS in Princeton.
Queer Career Day exists for a simple but powerful reason: queer young people deserve to see happy queer adults. They deserve to hear stories of resilience, creativity, purpose, and fulfillment, not only stories of struggle. They deserve to know that their futures are not limited by who they are, but expanded by it.
Growing up, many of us did not have that. We did not see ourselves reflected in positions of leadership, creativity, or stability. We did not hear enough stories that said: You can build a life you love. You can be safe. You can be joyful. You can belong.
That is what this event is about.
This year’s panel brings together an extraordinary range of voices, including a Broadway and television actor and director, an award-winning drag performance artist, and other professionals whose careers span creative, civic, and community leadership. Each of us has taken a different path, but we share a common truth: being queer is not a barrier to success. It is a source of strength, insight, and connection.
As a public servant, mentor, and LGBTQ+ community member, I see firsthand how powerful representation can be.
When young people can ask honest questions, hear real stories, and imagine themselves in a future that feels expansive rather than constrained, something shifts. Hope becomes tangible. Possibility becomes real.
HiTOPS has long been a beacon of support, education, and affirmation for young people in our region, and I am grateful to be partnering with them for this event. Creating spaces that are joyful, affirming, and unapologetically inclusive is not just nice. It is necessary.
If you or someone you know would benefit from this experience, I hope you will join us.
