Pride, Robotics, and Community Recognition at the June 8 Council Meeting

One of the things I enjoy most about serving on Township Council is the opportunity to recognize the people, organizations, and values that make West Windsor such a special community.
At our upcoming Council meeting on Monday, June 8, the first portion of the agenda will be dedicated to several ceremonial presentations and recognitions, and I would like to personally invite residents to attend. The evening will include West Windsor's annual Pride Month Proclamation, recognition of several robotics teams, the Mayor's State of the Township Address, and a presentation from the Shade Tree Commission.
Pride Month Proclamation
Council will issue West Windsor's annual Pride Month Proclamation, now the third consecutive year that our Township has formally recognized Pride Month.
The proclamation reaffirms our community's commitment to dignity, inclusion, equality, and respect for LGBTQ+ residents. It recognizes both the progress that has been made and the ongoing importance of ensuring that every resident feels safe, valued, and welcome.
As someone who grew up at a time when LGBTQ+ people were rarely visible in public leadership, I do not take these moments for granted. Visibility matters. Representation matters. And creating a community where people can live openly and authentically benefits all of us.
Community members are welcome to attend and show their support.

I also hope you'll consider joining us at Mercer Community Pride on Sunday, June 14, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Killarney's Publick House. Sponsored by the Democratic Clubs of Robbinsville, West Windsor, East Windsor, and Hamilton, the event is free and open to everyone. Food, beverages, music, and entertainment, will all be provided at no charge. It's a fun and welcoming way to celebrate Pride Month with friends, neighbors, and families from across Mercer County.
Recognition of West Windsor Robotics Teams
Council will recognize several award winning robotics teams for their accomplishments during the 2025-2026 season. These students from our community continue a long tradition of excellence in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, representing our community at regional, state, national, and international competitions.
The recognition celebrates not only competitive success, but also the dedication, teamwork, creativity, and problem-solving skills these students demonstrate throughout the year.
This is a recognition I always look forward to. Over the past several years, I've had the opportunity to support many of the students and programs that make up our local robotics community, including serving as a mentor to FTC Team 14481, Don't Blink, and supporting the broader work of the Princeton STEM Academy. Last year, I attended the FIRST World Championship and came away even more impressed by the talent, determination, and professionalism these students bring to everything they do.
While a few teams may receive the spotlight on any given day, this recognition reflects something much larger: a community that invests in STEM education, mentorship, innovation, and student achievement. West Windsor (and Plainsboro) have built something truly special, and we have every reason to be proud of these students and their accomplishments.
Before Monday night's Township Council meeting, several local robotics teams will be showcasing their robots and introducing visitors to their programs in the Municipal Building beginning at 6:00 PM.
This is a wonderful opportunity for families, parents, and students to meet the teams, see their robots up close, and learn more about the many STEM opportunities available in our community. Whether your child is already interested in STEM, or simply enjoys building, creating, and problem-solving, these programs offer an incredible environment for learning, teamwork, and personal growth.
We are fortunate to have one of the strongest student robotics communities in the region, with teams regularly competing and excelling at the regional, state, national, and international levels.
I encourage residents to arrive a little early, meet these talented students, and see firsthand the innovation, creativity, teamwork, and dedication that make these robotics programs so special.
State of the Township and Shade Tree Commission
Council will also hear the Mayor's annual State of the Township Address, providing an overview of Township accomplishments and priorities for the coming year.
In addition, the Shade Tree Commission will provide a presentation highlighting its ongoing work to preserve and enhance West Windsor's tree canopy and natural environment.
While the Council agenda often focuses on ordinances, budgets, and infrastructure projects, evenings like this remind us that local government is also about celebrating community, service, achievement, and belonging.
