Memorial Day: Honor and Support Our Military Veterans and Service Members Through Advocacy

As we celebrate the lives of those who have served and those who continue to serve, let us take a moment to reflect on the profound impact of their sacrifices. They have faced unimaginable hardships and endured the emotional and physical scars that come with their service. Their courage, dedication, and selflessness have shaped the course of our nation's history, and we owe them a debt of gratitude that can never truly be repaid.

As we honor their bravery, we must also recognize that our duty to them does not end when their service time is finished. Far too many of our veterans face significant challenges in their everyday lives. From securing adequate healthcare and mental health services to finding stable employment and affordable housing, the transition to civilian life can be an uphill battle.

Here in New Jersey, we are committed to supporting our veterans, but we can do more. It is our collective responsibility to ensure that those who have given so much for our country – as well as their families - receive the care and support they deserve. We must advocate for increased funding for veteran services, ensuring that they have access to the best healthcare, comprehensive mental health support, and robust job training programs.

So not only must we remember the sacrifices of our veterans, but we must actively work towards a future where their needs are met with the urgency and respect they deserve.

I do admit that I am not an expert on these issues, but I can learn quickly.  As a Councilman, I am committed to championing these causes and ensuring that our township is a place where veterans are honored not just with words, but with concrete actions that improve their lives.  Several dozen bills have been introduced in the NJ Assembly Military and Veterans’ Affairs Committee, from tax credits to improved healthcare services to memorial home improvements.  Please use your voice to inform me as to what is important to you, so that I can lift your voice and advocate on your behalf with our state and federal representatives.

Thank you, and may we never forget the sacrifices made by our veterans. May we honor them through our actions and strive to create a world worthy of their service.
