Council Reorganization Meeting Sets the Tone for 2026

West Windsor Township officially began the new year with its annual Council Reorganization Meeting, held on January 15. This meeting marked the formal start of the municipal governing calendar and established Council leadership, committee assignments, and volunteer appointments for the year ahead.

At the meeting, Linda Geevers was sworn in following her reelection to the Township Council, and Joe Charles was sworn in for his first term. Mr. Charles replaces former Councilmember Martin Whitfield on the five-member governing body. The Township also swore in Hemant Marathe, who begins his third term as Mayor of West Windsor.

As part of the reorganization, Sonia Gawas was nominated and appointed as Council President for 2026, with Andrea Mandel appointed as Vice President. These leadership roles guide the Council’s agenda, meeting structure, and legislative priorities throughout the year.

Council liaisons were also appointed to a range of Township boards and committees, helping to strengthen coordination between the governing body and advisory groups. I was appointed to serve on the Affordable Housing Committee and as the Council liaison to the Board of Education, roles that support ongoing collaboration on housing policy and school-municipal issues.

In addition to Council appointments, the meeting included the appointment of numerous resident volunteers to serve on Township boards and committees. These volunteers play a vital role in shaping policy recommendations, reviewing applications and development proposals, and advising the Council on everything from land use to environmental stewardship. Their willingness to serve is essential to West Windsor’s tradition of strong civic engagement.

The full reorganization meeting is available for public viewing online, providing residents with the opportunity to see the proceedings and learn more about the Township’s governance structure for the coming year.
