Time-sensitive request for help regarding the NJ Freedom to Read Act (S2421/A3446).

The Senate Education Committee is scheduled to meet on Thursday, June 20. Unfortunately, the agenda does not include a hearing of S2421. If the bill is not heard on Thursday, we'll need to wait until September for any progress. New Jersey students should not have to start another school year with a looming threat of book bans. Let's get the bill on the agenda!

Please follow the instructions here:

  • Email and call Senate President Scutari (732-827-7480, senscutari@njleg.org) and Senate Majority Leader Ruiz (973-484-1000, senruiz@njleg.org)

  • Message: Hello, my name is NAME from TOWN. Please put the Freedom to Read Act (S2421) on the Senate Education Committee agenda for June 20th. Thank you!

  • Then urge friends and family to do the same by sharing this post via social media.

If this campaign works, S2421 will be a last-minute addition to the June 20th agenda, but we don't have to wait until the last minute to enlist volunteers to testify in support of the bill. If you can come to Trenton on June 20th, please sign up here. Review the background information here. Further details will be sent out once the agenda is confirmed. Do not travel to Trenton on June 20 until you get confirmation that the bill is on the agenda.

Thanks so much for your ongoing support of intellectual freedom!
