Get ready for a fantastic day on Sunday September 8th at the 20th Annual West Windsor Bike Fest! Sponsored by West Windsor Township, the West Windsor Bicycle and Pedestrian Alliance (WWBPA), the Historical Society of West Windsor, and West Windsor Arts, this event is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our community, stay active, and dive into local history.
The WWBPA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that advocates for increased pedestrian walkways and bicycle paths in West Windsor, enabling residents to travel safely on foot and by bike for commuting, recreation, and fitness. West Windsor and neighboring townships are known to be car-centric: most residents use a car as their primary mode of transportation for daily errands or for their commute to work. The WWBPA believes that with improved pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure funded by local government and increased awareness of the health benefits of walking and biking, residents will choose to forgo excessive use of their cars for the healthier and more eco-friendly options.
So bring your bike to West Windsor Community Park and embark on a journey through time! The Bike Fest offers a variety of routes to explore the town’s rich history, with each tour featuring stops at historic landmarks. Whether you're looking for a kid-friendly route or a challenging ride, there's something for everyone. Families and children will especially enjoy the in-park activities, which include a history scavenger hunt, a bike obstacle course, and bike decorating led by West Windsor Arts. Kids will also have the chance to learn about the indigenous Leni Lenape, the early-1900s Trolley Line, “Pig Town,” and the history of the publisher of Raggedy Ann and Andy.
If you’re feeling peckish, refuel with a delicious lunch served at the park pavilion between 11:30 AM and 12:30 PM, featuring hoagies from Aljons and kathi rolls from Tript Foods. To ensure your bike is in top shape for the event, Road Maestro of Hightstown will be on hand for bicycle tune-ups and tire inflation. And don’t forget to stop by the West Windsor History Museum, where you can purchase signed copies of the West Windsor History Books and learn more about the fascinating stories of our town.
There are several route options to choose from:
The In-Park Ride is perfect for children 12 and under, offering a leisurely ride around the park with fun stops along the way. For those looking for a moderate challenge, the 8-Mile Ride is ideal for families and takes riders along the historic Trolley Line Trail and through the heart of Dutch Neck. The 20-Mile Ride is designed for more experienced cyclists, guiding them through the scenic Grovers Mill neighborhood and beyond. For seasoned cyclists, the 40-Mile Ride presents a challenging adventure, exploring Princeton, Plainsboro, Cranbury, East Windsor, Hightstown, and Robbinsville, with scenic stops along the way.
Don’t miss this exciting opportunity to come together with your neighbors, enjoy some exercise, and learn about the rich history of our community. We look forward to seeing you at the West Windsor Bike Fest!
