Raising Awareness to Help Cure Childhood Cancer: Young Leaders of the Haskel Drive Alex’s Lemonade Stand

At the heart of Haskel Drive, a group of determined students is leading a remarkable effort to change the lives of children with cancer.  The Haskel Drive Lemonade Stand is more than just a neighborhood tradition; it’s a movement driven by compassion and community spirit.

Arjun Khanna, a rising senior at WWP HS South, and his brother Rohan, a student at Grover Middle School started this tradition 10 years ago! Run by local students with support from their families, this initiative has become a beacon of hope and charity. The students behind this project have demonstrated extraordinary leadership and dedication. Through their hard work, they’ve raised significant funds for the Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation. The foundation’s mission is to change the lives of children with cancer through funding impactful research, raising awareness, supporting families and empowering everyone to help cure childhood cancer.

Childhood cancer is the number one cause of death by disease for children in the United States, but sadly, pediatric cancer research remains consistently underfunded by the federal government.

What sets this lemonade stand apart is the students’ commitment to making a tangible difference and the extensive engagement they receive from the community. They not only sell lemonade but also educate their community about the cause they support. Each year, the stand becomes a platform for these young leaders to share information, encourage donations, and inspire others to take action. Numerous public safety groups and leaders participated, including the Chief of Police and numerous members of West Windsor Police Department, Volunteer Firefighters from across the township, and elected officials from West Windsor including current and former Council members as well as the Mayor.

The impact of the Haskel Drive Lemonade Stand extends far beyond the funds raised. It’s about fostering a sense of community, teaching the importance of giving back, and showing that even the youngest members of society can be powerful agents of change. These students are proving that with passion, creativity, and a little bit of lemonade, they can make a significant impact on the world.

Their efforts serve as a reminder that age is no barrier to making a difference. The Haskel Drive Lemonade Stand is not just about raising money; it’s about raising awareness and building a better future, one cup of lemonade at a time.
