About the event
Juneteenth Celebration Returns for the Fourth Year (Trenton, NJ) – For this year’s celebration, Presenting Sponsor, Capital Health, has provided support to make the highly anticipated family-oriented celebration of freedom and culture one to remember. Juneteenth planners are embarking upon the second year where Mercer County Park Festival Grounds will serve as the host venue. In partnership with the New Jersey Legislative District 15 (Senator Shirley Turner, Assemblywoman Verlina Reynolds-Jackson and Assemblyman Anthony Verrelli) and Mercer County Executive Dan Benson, the African American Cultural Collaborative of Mercer County (AACCMC) is excited about the opportunity for collective partnering and solidification of heritage that will be highlighted on Saturday, June 15.
The headliner is American Singer and pianist, Vivian Green. Known for her R&B hit, “Get Right Back to My Baby”, she is scheduled to electrify the atmosphere along with other invited performers including Chelsey Green and the Green Project, Lin Rountree and the Cintron Band. The event will start at 12 pm and conclude at 8 p.m. A performance by Sable Musicality is scheduled to occur shortly after opening greetings and a libation ceremony.
Assemblywoman Verlina Reynolds Jackson said, “this event is not just about honoring the enduring spirit and sacrifices of our ancestors, but also about reflecting on the importance of reparations and the steps necessary to heal and progress as a community.” AACCMC Executive Director Latarsha Burke said she is “appreciative for the sponsors and partners who understand the value of cultural programming, entertainment and family centered events for the greater Mercer County area and its residents.”
Other sponsors include Wells Fargo, whose contribution will facilitate economic empowerment beyond this event through home ownership initiatives within the city of Trenton. Johnson and Johnson, Wegmans and NJM Insurance Group have also contributed as viable supporters for this year’s celebration. The purpose of this event is to highlight a few very poignant and current issues through displays of culture, collaboration, commerce, unity and education. More than sixty vendors are expected to attend. Food trucks, a Children’s Literacy Village, games, interactive displays and so much more will be available for all ages to enjoy. This event is free to attend.
The goal of the Collaborative is to Educate, Empower and Unite Africans in the diaspora through cultural arts, health and wellness, entertainment, and sports.. For more information, please visit www.TAACF.com or call 609-474-4073.
